How the Panama Canal was built

The first ship a hundred years ago this month going through the Panama Canal route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

The channel is a huge project, built in extremely inhospitable conditions, but forever changed the world trade.

BBC News tells the story of the construction of one of the seven wonders of the modern world.
