October 28, 2014 at 08:13 clock Updated GMT
The funding has been confirmed by a £ 97m supercomputer to improve weather forecasting and climate modeling from the Met Office.
The plant operates 13 times faster than the current system, which allows detailed forecast models in the UK, run at a resolution of 1.5 kilometers per hour instead of every three.
It is built in Exeter in 2015 and opened in September, as reported by David Shukman.
