As a woman conquered the giant mines and rescued the rare snow leopards

A Mongolian woman won a prestigious environmental award following a successful campaign to prevent mining companies from destroying critical snow leopard habitats.

Bayarjargal Agvaantseren convinced his government to create a large nature reserve in the southern Gobi Desert and cancel 37 mining contracts in the area.

She is one of six individuals honored by the Goldman Environmental Prize Committee in 2019 for her work.
