With over-production of beads in the last few years, natural pearls are becoming increasingly rare.
So, anyone know if a pearl decides in a shell or developed if a man had a hand in its creation?
And how easy it is to make the difference?
Laurent Cartier, Project Manager at Swiss Gemological Institute in Basel (SSF) describes how the technology is getting more challenging to decipher the differences between the two.
