Criticized mountain build huge telescope

The top of a mountain of 3000 meters (10,000 feet) blew in Chile, to make room for larger optical and infrared telescope in the world.
One million tons of rock were destroyed in order to create a flat surface on which to build a European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT).
The heart will be a mirror that is half the size of a football field.
