Editor David Shukman BBC science discussed, like the rain in the air is calculated with the aid of a radar system.
British winter may be warmer and wetter than the past, but the cold weather is not yet scheduled, said the UK Met Office.
Dorset Tower is part of a network of 15 radars in the UK.
