Scientists at Harvard University have provided convincing evidence that the folds in the human brain simple physical product, its fastest growing outer layer and the formation of wrinkles.

They made a replica, always smooth and unfolded and expanded with a second layer, when placed in a glass jar solvent fetal brain.

This creates a network of grooves that was very similar to the development of a real human brain - and a computer simulation has over the process in adulthood.

The research is published in the journal Nature Physics .
