Nigel Butcher is sometimes called the "gadget man" RSPB.
He leads a small team to build the electronic device to help scientists, conservation charity, to collect data in the field.
Working with a budget of only £ 5,000 per year is Nigel to reorient a lot of work to everyday objects.
BBC News went to meet him in his studio.
