Science and technology: The founder of the application inspires children

Pearce Jarrett is a machine learning engineer and the founder of Gwaan, a motivational fitness app that uses AI technology.

The 28-year-old launched the app 18 months ago and has since won a UKRI Young Innovators Award.

According to new figures from UK universities, less than 2% of academic staff working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics are black. The British Science Association calls for better representation of the British workforce as part of British Science Week.
