The Nigerian ecologist Wonne Afronolly is working hard to cleanse her town of Port Harcourt.
The researchers say 10 rivers are responsible for the deposition of 90% of the plastic pollution that ends up at sea.
One is the Niger River and Port Harcourt is in its mouth.
Ms. Afronelly told the BBC minute that the mood of the population is her biggest challenge.
