A rare Sumatran rhino is born in Indonesia

A rare Sumatran rhinoceros has been born in an Indonesian sanctuary.

The calf, whose name is not yet known, weighed 25 kg.

Sumatran rhinos are the smallest rhinos and are considered critically endangered.

Successful births should be celebrated as there are only about 40 animals left in the world on the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Borneo, according to global conservation organization WWF.

They were once found in Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Thailand and perhaps beyond.

SpaceX rocket launches, separates and loses contact

American businessman Elon Musk launched his Starship rocket for the second time from its launch site in Texas.

The rocket flew for about eight minutes before SpaceX announced it had lost contact and ended its livestream.

The tip of the rocket successfully separated from the booster, which then exploded.

BBC correspondent Jon Amos says it self-destructed over the Atlantic.

During its first launch in April, the huge rocket broke apart and exploded after four minutes.

A man grabs Greta Thunberg's microphone after pro-Palestinian chants at a climate rally

A stage intruder interrupted a speech by Greta Thunberg at a major climate protest in Amsterdam on Sunday.

The man said he "came here for the climate protest, not to express a political opinion" as he tried to take the microphone from Thunberg's hands.

Shortly before the incident, shouts of "Palestine will be free" could be heard in the crowd.

At the start of the demonstration, organizers interrupted an activist's speech with the phrase "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," Reuters reported.

Many Jewish groups say the slogan used in protests around the world is a call for the destruction of Israel. Pro-Palestinian activists say most of those who use it are calling for an end to Israel's occupation of the West Bank and blockade of Gaza, rather than the annihilation of Israel itself.

After the man was removed from the stage, Thunberg joined the crowd and chanted "No climate justice in the occupied countries."

Last month, the Swedish climate activist came under fire after sharing pro-Palestinian posts on social media. Some accused her of failing to show support for Israeli victims of Hamas attacks.

The Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge in Maui, Hawaii, has recently seen an influx of visitors, but they're not there for the wetlands, but for the bubblegum pink pond.

Scientists aren't sure what caused the pond to turn the light "Barbie" shade of pink, but they suspect it could be due to high levels of salt in the water, which causes the growth of halobacteria organisms.

People are warned not to come too close or drink the water.

Six pairs of conjoined twins have been reunited and treated at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Families came together to share stories about their experiences and how they continued to live healthy lives.

The first successful operation to separate conjoined twins at GOSH took place in 1985 and since then 38 pairs of twins have been treated.

A rare “Dumbo” octopus filmed live at sea

A "Dumbo" octopus with ear-shaped fins resembling the 1940s Disney cartoon character was spotted during an EVNautilus livestream exploring the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument in the North Pacific.

The octopus can live at depths of up to 7,000 meters and was filmed by a remotely operated vehicle operated by the Ocean Exploration Trust.

Baby turtles make their way to the sea from rare nest found on Mississippi beach

Some baby turtles have arrived safely at sea after being removed from a nest on a Mississippi beach.

In January 2023, the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies (IMMS) discovered a sea turtle nest at Pass Christian, a rare phenomenon on the artificial beach.

During a search for the hatchlings, IMMS staff discovered 84 eggs, including 12 live hatchlings.

"Survival estimates for newborns are very low. About one in every thousand newborns reaches adulthood."

This is because turtles must survive to adulthood, usually 15 to 20 years, sometimes even 30 years, before they begin laying eggs," said Theresa Madrigal, IMMS stranding coordinator.

A giant gargoyle was filmed off the coast of the Isle of Wight in England.

The UK's national weather service, the Met Office, said the gargoyle was spotted on August 26.

Gargoyles are similar to tornadoes but form over a body of water.
